• Technology at South Side

South Side is fortunate with a considerable amount of state-of-the-art technology.  Every classroom has a smartboard, either a Promethean or MyVision board, to allow teachers to interact with presentations and the internet seamlessly.  Additionally, we are a 1:1 laptop school.

A majority of these purchases have been made with Federal funds through Title I funds.

  • Technology Documentation

All students who use school devices sign a Responsible/Acceptable Use Form.  This is a form completed in the registration process each spring on PowerSchool.  By using school devices and signing this form, students and parents agree to use devices for academic purposes and use the devices in an appropriate manner.

All students who check out a device to use outside of the school building must complete a Portable Device Agreement. By using school devices and signing this form, students and parents agree not to make changes to the device and are financially responsible for any damage, loss, or theft while in the student's possession.

These devices are checked out to the students for the duration of the school year.  December graduates must return their school devices by the end of the fall semester.

    Technology Assistance

If a student encounters problems with their device, they may contact Ms. Parnell in the Library Media Center to begin the troubleshooting process.   If she cannot resolve the issue, a ticket will be placed with our district technology staff to rectify the problem.  All attempts will be made to provide a temporary replacement device for the student to use during that time, but cannot be guaranteed.

    Device Chargers

The district does not have extra chargers if one is lost or damaged.  The student is responsible for purchasing a new charger to replace the lost or damaged item, or pay for the item charge via SchoolCashOnline.

For convenience, find links to replacement chargers below.  Links are to Amazon. However, replacement chargers may be purchased elsewhere.  Ensure the charger is compatible with the laptop assigned to the student, paying special attention to the WATTAGE.

If a replacement charger is not provided to the school, and a charge must be incurred, please note that due to a technology purchasing contract, the replacement fee for chargers ranges from $35 to $60.

    Damaged or Lost Devices

If a device is returned damaged, a damage fee will be incurred.

    • Chromebooks:  $35
    • Windows Devices: $50

If a device is lost and not returned, a replacement fee for the device will be incurred and charged to the student's School Cash Online account.
